Khao Sok National Park
Surat Thani has so much more to offer you than being a passage to exotic islands. It has one of the best natural wonders in all of Asia and it is most definitely Khao Sok National Park. The park is about 646 km2 and it is located in an area containing many wildlife sanctuaries and national parks including national parks like Kaen Krung and Phang Nga plus, Khlong Nakha and Khlong Sael wildlife sanctuaries. The park is uninhabited and touched by people and still remains today, offering more than 180 bird species and amazing wildlife like leopard, snakes, monkey and even wild elephants.
Surat Thani is known for having great religious sights that are worth your time including Wat Suan Mokkaphalaram, which is a truly magnificent retreat surrounded by a beautiful calm forest that you can enroll in for 10 days to learn different teachings and types of meditation that soothes the soul from a mix of religions like Taoism, Christianity, and Zen. The retreat was founded by one of Thailand's most well-known monks named Ajan Buddhadasa Bikkhu. Another great religious sight is the City Pillar Shrine which is believed to carry Surat Thani’s own spirit and provides many ceremonies that can be enjoyed by everyone.
One of the greatest things about Surat Thani is its close proximity to gorgeously exotic islands such as Koh Tao. Koh Tao is a diver’s paradise; its huge popularity comes from the fact that it is the best place in Thailand to dive whether you are an expert or an amateur. Aside from diving, Koh Tao has the most amazing picturesque vies and many extremely fun activities like attending live jam sessions or participate in rock climbing to challenge yourself physically even further. The island is even a host to beach barbeques that include some outstanding fire performances.
